Moving is thrilling, but a lot can happen during any journey long or short. Even with the utmost care from your movers, relocating personal possessions is never without risk.

Embark on your relocation to, from, or within Thailand with confidence and greater peace of mind when you get covered with Relocation Insurance, underwritten by Chubb Insurance Thailand Limited

Safeguard your Possessions Every Step of the Way

Relocation insurance coverage provided by a removal company typically covers a limited range of risks and often comes with lower coverage limits. Here are a few reasons why you should purchase additional coverage:

Higher Value Protection

If you have valuable items, the basic coverage might not be sufficient. Additional insurance allows you to insure these items for their full value.

Greater Peace of Mind

Having adequate coverage can provide greater peace of mind during what can be a stressful process. This can help reduce any financial impact from unexpected damage or loss.

Customisable Digital Policies

Additional relocation insurance often offers customizable options tailored to your specific needs, such as covering international moves, storage, or special circumstances.

Better Claims Process

Relocation insurance providers may offer a more efficient and customer friendly claims process compared to the basic coverage offered by removal companies.

FAQ for Relocation Insurance Thailand

How do I provide an inventory of my property being shipped?

Use the packing list provided by the transport operator or self-declare the value in each box. You must send the following documents to support your claim:

  • For check-in luggage – claims must be supported by a list of items and evidence of value but you do not need to provide a schedule before transit.
  • For Hand carry items, you must send us a full itemised and valued inventory.
  • Collectables and valuables are covered only if they are supported by a valuation certificate.

Please check condition 4.1 for further details.

NOTE: anything not declared on the inventory list is not covered by this policy.

How to make a claim

The Insured must, as soon as practicable, give written notice to Chubb Singapore via the email listed below, of any loss, theft, damage or destruction of the Insured’s property, but always no later than five (5) days after the delivery of the Insured’s property at the consigned address or five (5) days after the Insured’s property is deemed lost:

Details of claims submission can further be found on the Certificate of Insurance/Evidence of Cover

What is the excess amount (deductible) I need to pay when making a claim?

When making a claim, the first 1,000 USD or 1% of the claim value, whichever is greater, will be deducted as a policy excess. This excess is the portion of the claim that is deducted from the payout by the insurer.

Can you provide an example of how the excess works?

For example, if your claim value is 150,000 USD, 1% of that amount is 1,500 USD. Since 1,500 USD is greater than the minimum excess of 1,000 USD, 1,500 USD would be deducted from your claim payout.

The policy excess helps manage insurance costs by reducing the number of small claims and ensuring that insurance is used for significant losses. It also helps to keep your premium costs lower.

The excess amount is consistent across all claims. The first 1,000 USD or 1% of the claim value, whichever is greater, will always be deducted as a policy excess.

How do I calculate the value of my shipment?

There are three options to help you to calculate the value of your shipment. If you are uncertain as to the value of your shipment, we can make it easier for you by opting for either Standard or Premium cover which is calculated for you according to the estimated cubic metres of your shipment. You will receive the estimated amount of cubic metres from your shipping agent during the quotation process. However, if you wish to declare an alternative sum assured, you can also do so.

When does the relocation insurance cover begin and end?

Cover begins from the time your items are first moved by the transport operator and continues during the ordinary course of transit until the completion of unloading at the consignee’s address.

What if we don’t know where our home address will be for the consignment note?

The transport operator will put a consigned address on the consignment note.

When you know the home address, please inform us as soon as possible.

Are losses that occur during the period of packing covered?

No, this policy does not cover losses which occur during the period of packing or unpacking as this is not deemed as transit.

Are items packed by ourselves covered under the policy?

No, the policy covers items that have been packed by the Transport operator, however this is not a requirement for check-in luggage and hand carry items.
